Louisa Chan Boegli MD, MPH, received her doctorate in medicine from the University of California Los Angeles, USA, and a Master of Public Health degree from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK.
Currently, she is a core executive member of the Rugiagli Initiative, which focuses on building the capacity of national doctors working in conflict areas and on promoting international collaboration in health and peace work.
In her talk, “Healing under Fire – how to make a lasting difference”, Doctor Louisa Chan Boegli will share her experience and tools for working to solve conflict.

Ferdinand R. Waldenberger MD, studied Medicine at Medical University of Innsbruck (Austria), earning his PhD from KU Leuven (Belgium) in 1995.
In 1988, he completed his internship/residency in Cardiac Surgery, andlater was appointed as Professor of this specialty.
Since 2010, he has been medical director at General Clinical Centre Klagenfurt, having performed 3000 cardiac operations so far.
In his talk ─ The ethical dilemma of a heart surgeon ─, Professor Ferdinand Waldenberger will share his knowledge regarding the challenges of life-saving cardiac surgery.

Eric Francis Wieschaus MD, PhD, graduated in 1969 from the University of Notre Dame, Indianapolis, USA, then went on to complete his PhD at Yale University, Connecticut, and finally got his postdoctoral, in 1978, from the University of Zürich, Switzerland.
In 1995 the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded jointly to Edward B. Lewis, Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard and Eric F. Wieschaus for their discoveries concerning "the genetic control of early embryonic development”. Using Drosophila, Professor Wieschaus and his research partner were able to identify and classify a small number of genes that are of key importance in determining the body plan and the formation of body segments.
Currently, he is a Professor in Molecular Biology at Princeton University and leader of the Wieschaus Lab where he still conducts research on the embryonic development of Drosophila melanogaster.
